On-demand Workshops

These workshops are arranged on request. Most are designed for an individual, so you’re getting 100% of my time, but can be shared with a friend or family member if you’d prefer that.

Please contact me by email (lois@bluebell-design.com) to discuss your requirements and check availability.

Absolute Beginners – One to One Lesson

Monday to Saturday, depending on availability.

Do you wish you could learn to sew? Is your sewing machine sitting in the back of a cupboard, gathering dust? I can teach you the basics of machine sewing in this 3 hour class, enough to get you on your way.

Bring your sewing machine and all of its accessories (power cord, manual, bobbins, presser feet, needles, a spool of sewing thread, sewing kit) to this workshop. Practice fabric will be supplied by Bluebell Design.

I’ll show you how to set up your machine before we explore your machine’s functions and learn the most useful stitches and seams. I’ll share tips and tricks with you that I’ve learned in over 40 years of sewing. We’ll even sew a quick project together to get you started, and you will leave feeling confident that you can start to sew on your own.

Studio sewing machines are available if you don’t have one. Bring your own machine if you can, as it’s much better that you learn on the machine you will use at home!

As this is held on a one-to-one basis, you will receive my full attention, allowing me to really see how you use your sewing tools and offer advice on your specific needs. Perfect for those of a quieter disposition, who find a larger class overwhelming.

£50 for 3 hours.

Hi   Just wanted to say a big Thank you for today. L****** is grinning from ear to ear. She has also been raving on to her dad about the session she had with you and proudly showing off her wee bag.  You have certainly boosted her confidence. Thanks again.

Workshop Time

Work completely independently in my studio, with no involvement from me besides a wee bit of chitchat and the offer of a cuppa. You get the use of the facilities and some equipment and of course, those unlimited cuppas. Bring your own sewing machine, pattern, sewing kit and fabric and sew up a storm in peace, with room to work on my large tables.

Plan a little “me” time with your sewing machine, in a space where you have room and peace to work uninterrupted. Book along with a friend and have some “sewcial” time together (pun intended). Minimum booking is 2 hours, on a mutually convenient date and time. No advance booking is strictly necessary but please contact me to check availability before you visit.

£8/hour per person.

All materials and equipment will be supplied for this class, but I suggest you bring your own sewing machine if at all possible.

Machine made roman blinds

Monday to Saturday, depending on availabilty.

This is either a full day course (6 hours, with break for packed lunch) or 2 x half day sessions of 3 hours each.

You’ll learn how to measure your window, how to calculate how much fabric you’ll need, calculate the pleats and will make a small sample roman blind to master the techniques, ready to apply them to your home.

Pattern cutting – One to one

Monday to Saturday, depending on availability.

Are you “hard to fit” and/or just interested in learning how to cut your own patterns, to your own measurements? Starting with a basic skirt block, we’ll measure you correctly and then draft the pattern to your measurements. Fit will be tested with toile fittings, and you’ll be shown how to adjust as necessary. Once your block is ready, we will then use it to develop different skirt patterns.

Bodice, trouser and dress blocks can be developed in further sessions, ultimately providing you with a set of blocks that you can then use to build a capsule wardrobe over time.

This is a full day workshop so you will need to bring a packed lunch.

10am to 5pm – £200.
